Explore Spiral Healing

Spirals are the primary organizing movement of galaxies, sub-atomic particles, water, air and DNA. Bioelectric currents spiral through your body from cell to cell, through nerves and blood flowing through the great electromagnetic field of your heart. Spirals can heal and energize your mind/body by harmonizing the flow of energy. Explore using self-help spirals for first aid in relieving pain, boosting energy, enhancing memory and opening your heart.

Start gradually, and observe your responses. Explore what works for you. You are the only one who knows the changing feelings and beat of your heart, the pulsing of arteries and the fluctuating vitality and consciousness generated by your body/mind/heart. As you explore this practice be aware of what increases your energy, what relaxes you and how you feel during the day.

NOTE: The energy healing described in this blog is not intended as medical advice. Consult your physician or other health care professional for evaluation if you are ill or experiencing pain.

USING SPIRALS

To explore spirals of energy for self-healing, slowly and mindfully move your hand in a circular motion over a painful spot or area, first clockwise, then counterclockwise. Begin with nine spirals in each direction, then six, then three. Mindful attention increases energy. Focus your attention on the spiral to bring more energy and healing. No pressure is needed. Use a light touch, or spiral an inch or two above your body. Make the size of the circles fit the area. Gradually increase the distance from the area as you very slowly continue to spiral upward, as high as your hand can reach. If the energy sensations become too intense or uncomfortable, stop and return to the practice at a later time.

There are many types of mathematical spirals. We will focus on simple spirals that will be used for healing. They include the circle, a simple two-dimensional spiral. Then the coiling two-dimensional spiral. The helix is the coiling three-dimensional spiral. The strongest energy-producing spiral is the funnel, which starts with a small circle and builds to a three-dimensional figure. You can also play with curlicues in a spiral dance. Feel free to use your intuition when playing with spirals.

Explore using self-help spirals for first aid in relieving pain, boosting energy, enhancing memory and opening your heart. Experiment with alternating clockwise and counterclockwise direction, speed of movement and distance from your body. Shaky hands won’t hinder healing. No need for perfection, it’s your intention that counts.

Try starting from the center of the spiral, or from the outside in. Vary the spiral’s size. For example, make one large spiral over a painful hip, and/or smaller ones all around it. Visualize spirals inside the painful area. Play with the energy and find out what works for you. As you circle farther from your body's surface, you may experience increased energy. Trust your intuition and how your hands move spontaneously. Opening your heart with the loving intention to heal will enhance energy, but it is not necessary in order for healing to occur. If your heart feels constricted, and you’d like your heart to open, start by spiraling around it.

ENERGY
To bring energy and healing to your whole body, rest your right hand on the top of your head, and with the left hand spiral down your forehead to your pubic bone. As you skim down the body you can circle loop-de-loop, or make separate spirals on your forehead, nose, neck, chest, solar plexus, belly button and pubic bone. To stabilize the energy leave your hand on your pubic bone; with your other hand, hold the base of your spine for a minute. You can spiral either on or a few inches away from your body. Pay attention to what feels best for you. Compare the energy from flat two-dimensional spirals with three-dimensional helixes and funnels. The above energizing exercise is based on the Main Central Flow from Jin Shin Jyutsu: www.jsjinc.net.

GROUNDING
We naturally ground ourselves when we walk or are connected to wood or the earth. If you spend more than ten minutes spiraling, and don’t want to get out of your chair or bed, you can ground by visualizing a cord or roots growing from the base of your spine, or the soles of your feet, deep into the  earth. Grounding your energy will prevent overload.

ABDOMEN
Make palm-sized spirals slowly all around the belly at least twice. Or make a spiral starting at the navel. Where you feel pain or tension, focus on that area with additional spirals.

ARMS AND LEGS
Spiral down the length of the limb to the fingers or toes. Repeat on all sides of the limb, or spiral above, below and directly over the painful area.

WOUNDS
Spirals may speed wound healing.

ARTHRITIC FINGER OR JOINT PAIN
Spiral down the arthritic finger, both the front and back. You may need to repeat this a few times. For an arthritic joint like a shoulder, hip or wrist, spiral all around it, staying over the joint.

BACK
You can reach behind you and spiral on your lower back. Or spiral above and below where you are hurting, and then on the painful spot; this may especially help your spine. Visualize spirals in the places you can’t reach.

EYESTRAIN
Spiral slowly with your attention focused around the pupil and then the whole eye. For additional healing, spiral above and below each eye. Your eyesight may be clearer, and you may feel energy throughout your body. The effects of spiraling on acuity of vision are unknown.

INSOMNIA
Spiral slowly down your foot from your heel to your toes. Ground your energy as described above.

MEMORY
Place your right hand on the top of your head, and your left hand between your eyes. This is the Jin Shin position for restoring memory, but it may take a long time. A single spiral, or a few, may awaken your memory. If your memory needs more stimulation, then rest your right hand on the top center of your head, and with your left hand spiral down your forehead. Then rest your left hand between your eyebrows while you spiral from your crown to your forehead. If you feel too much energy, spiral slowly with fewer turns. Spiraling on the top half of your head before bedtime may keep you awake.

SLUGGISHNESS
If you are growing sleepy in a social situation and want to skip caffeine, you can rejuvenate by spiraling the center of your palms, or the inside of your knees.

The most powerful way to experience spirals is with your mind. Imagine the spiral moving internally through a stressed area in your body. Use the same techniques described above when spiraling externally.

DON'T OVERDO IT
A cautionary tale . . .Upon awakening, my feet were stiff, so lying in bed, I sleepily skimmed  each foot and leg with dozens of spirals. Energy surged all through me. Rarely have my feet felt so good. I felt I was giving myself something like a foot massage, but I was spiraling above my foot’s surface, which generates a lot more energy. But like using too much of an herb in cooking, I’d spiraled way too much. My pulse had become faint and was no longer rhythmically singing. My heartbeat had become erratic with very rapid, irregular beats. Because I’ve been practicing energy work for decades, I was able to synchronize my pulse and restore  my balance. But I knew I didn’t want to go through that again.

As you begin spiraling, you may be able to do only a limited number of spirals at one time. With time and experience, your number will increase greatly. Over the past 10 years, I have found that I can give myself a spiral “bath” without feeling any undesirable side effects.

I’ve learned many lessons from my experience of over-spiraling my feet. Don’t overdo it. Be careful. Check in with how you’re feeling and for how many minutes you’ve been spiraling. If you begin to feel dizzy or light-headed, stop. You can always resume later.

Spiraling evokes and connects me to the abundant flow of universal energy spinning the stars and planets and every electron in every cell of my body. Because I am working with an incredibly powerful force, I must be fully aware while spiraling. Be mindful and use this energy wisely.

SCIENCE AND SPIRALING
I hope that someday science will investigate the physiological effects of spiraling. What are the effects on cell activity, blood flow, galvanic skin response and other markers? This could be a a rich field of exploration.

PLEASE SHARE
Please share how spirals have worked for you by describing the intention and focus of your spiraling and your experience. I am particularly interested in changes in your pain level, energy, memory and/or eyesight. What kind of spiral did you use, and how many turns of the spiral or minutes did it take. Your responses will help us all learn and bring healing energy to others. Contact me at beulahamsterdam@gmail.com.

  1. Beulah, At work today, I was staring at the spirals on the Harmonic Translation System we use to deliver energy healing. It never was really clear to me how it worked, but now, after reading about spirals, I can see, if we are all made of energy and light and fluid, it's important to find ways to keep us all moving and flowing and swirling.

  2. I started reading this article after seeing a link on facebook about spiral healing. It seems goofy and non harmful, completely unscientific which is the choice of whoever uses it. But as I read people using it to treat or aid serious conditions I'm feeling sick and think this is a gross miss representation of a concept that offers nothing but vague comparisons between geometries found in a 3 dimensional world and some unevidenced greater power. The world is an amazing place full of wonder and fascinating information but there is none of that here. None of this could or would work and at best you would be experiencing a theatrical placebo which in itself is a far more intriguing phenomenon than anything postulated here.

    1. "Information on this blog is intended to complement and not replace the advice of your own physician who you should consult about any symptoms that may require medical attention," as stated below.

Most adults deal with transient or chronic pain. I spiral painful, arthritic joints and avoid the side-effects of drugs. Rather than using caffeine , I spiral the center of my palm.

Please tell me what happens when you use at least nine spirals on a target area, or other ways you find spirals helpful.
